deshawn brooks

Deshawn Brooks started his freshman year at Morehouse College this Fall 2023. He is native of Washington, DC where he graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Deshawn is currently majoring in Cinema, Television, and Emerging Media Studies (CTEMS) where he aspires to be a Director with a passion for directing and editing videos. Deshawn's mother passed away just one week before he turned two years old. He was raised by his family where they created a strong supportive village that significantly contributed to shaping him into the young man he has become today. Through the years, Deshawn found solace in joining an ensemble called "Voices Now" to help cope with his mother's death and express her loss in a healthy way. Though his studies at Morehouse, Deshawn envisions himself as a filmmaker, drawing inspiration from iconic figures like Spike Lee. His goal is to create films that convey the powerful message that embracing emotions is a catalyst for positive change. Deshawn is driven by a desire to make a difference, one that would make his late mother proud. We can't wait to see what lies ahead for Deshawn's future!
